Dec 9 (Reuters) – TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) has reached an agreement to become the operator for Galp’s Mopane offshore permit in Namibia’s Orange Basin, taking a 40% stake from the Portuguese energy group, the French multinational announced on Tuesday.
The company described the deal as a strategic move that will position TotalEnergies as the operator of Namibia’s two largest oil discoveries and support the construction of a major production hub in the region.
Final closing of the transaction is anticipated in 2026, according to the press release.
Earlier reports indicated that TotalEnergies and Chevron were frontrunners to acquire the 40% operating stake in Mopane during an auction held in late 2025.
