Bold truth: Hokum promises to push the boundaries of supernatural horror with a fresh, audacious voice from the Oddity crew. The film, directed and written by Damian McCarthy, has locked in a theatrical release date and aims to deliver a spine-tingling experience.
Hokum is slated to haunt theaters on May 1, 2026, with Neon distributing the feature. The announcement also brings a new image of Adam Scott, known for Severance and Krampus, in the lead role.
In the story, Scott plays a horror novelist who travels to a secluded Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, only to discover the inn’s dark rumor—a witch’s lingering presence.
The cast includes Peter Coonan (The Alienist: Angel of Darkness) and David Wilmot (Station Eleven), adding depth to the eerie atmosphere.
Production is led by Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) and Steven Schneider (Insidious), alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil) and Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, and Mairtín de Barra. The project also features executive producers Ben Ross (Late Night With the Devil), Dan Kagan (Longlegs), Rami Yasin (Late Night with the Devil), and Andrew Childs (The Long Walk).
Steven Schneider previously commented on the collaboration, highlighting McCarthy’s distinctive approach and Adam Scott’s proven talent. He noted that Hokum is evolving into something truly special and expressed anticipation for audiences worldwide to experience the film.
